A RECORD OF EVENTS LEADING TO THE BUILDING OF THE HUB – Charity Registration Number – 1185780
Update – A project completed on time and to budget!
The text below was the final post on this website, before it was superseded by ‘The Hub Website‘ in September 2023
As planned, the keys to the Hub were handed over, by Kier, on the 4th of August 2023. There was no great ceremony at this point (that’s to come), as time was spent on training us to ensure we all know how to secure the building and understand the operation of the fire alarm system. Kari Davies, the hub manager designate, was also able to spend time with us yesterday to get some early familiarisation of the building systems. There is a final piece of ‘legal work’ (yawn!) to happen before the MUCH trustees take full possession of the building but work continues on readying it for opening on 4th September. The car park, now fitted with a new height restrictor and EV charging points, will soon be brought back into operation but with some additional controls so that it is used in the main by Hub visitors.
Also as planned, the Wi-Fi system is in and now fully operational. The printer / scanner / copier has been installed and commissioned and the kitchen is ready for operation. Over the coming weeks and months, the Hub will continue to be furnished. The tables and chairs for the small hall, kindly donated by Coleg y Cymoedd, will be installed, as will the desks and chairs for the office and meeting rooms (donated by the Highmore group). Drinks and snack vending machines will be situated in the foyer along with a few café-style tables and chairs. Public address and sound systems will be installed in both halls with a projector and motorised screen in the large hall. Other equipment is on the ‘to buy’ list, for example badminton nets, which will also be sequenced in as funds permit.
The next task, once a fire risk assessment is completed on the 7th of August, will be to start allocating the 30 or so provisional ‘hire requests’ for the groups and classes to the day and time slots, whilst trying to meet everyone’s ideals. Click on the following to see the room information and hire charges. Public viewing of the Hub is planned for the 19th of August between 10am and 3pm. We’ll put a reminder out on Facebook nearer the time.
This is the final post on this website, as we will be moving to a new website in the next couple of weeks. It will include a new on-line booking system that will be open for you to hire any of the rooms.
Thank you again for all your support in bringing the project to completion and we hope you enjoy the well-deserved facility.
Paul
P.S. And finally, as an addendum, a few places left –
