and then there was the Duck Race . . .

At the beginning of the month the Trustees met and discussed a wide range of subjects; policies development, additional lighting on the Three Fields Site, the business plan and of course the Duck Race.  The draft minutes can be viewed here.

Further discussions have ensued this month to firm up on the total cost of the Hub and the combination of funding options available.  There is a growing confidence that we will be clear on this by the time that we have charitable status (hopefully within a couple of months). More news on this next month.

Finally, on the 23rd of the month, Sally’s Duck Race took place on the Mill Stream running through the Three Fields Site.  The weather, in the end, was kind enough with about 60 people (including 30 children) attending and over a hundred ‘rubber duckies’ entered into the race. All ducks safely completed the course (with suitable encouragement) and were recovered to paddle another day.  The winning duck was owned by Heather Hughes (seen here with her grand-daughter, Poppy) who received a family ticket for Bristol zoo as first prize. Second and third places went to Archie Bowkett and the King family respectively.  The event also gave us the opportunity to mark out the Hub on the site and for people to ask questions about the plans for the Hub. It seems the event was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone and that perhaps it should be repeated as an annual event.  Our thanks go to everyone who helped organise it, those who bought ducks and attended on the day, Little Brew and Poppy’s Vintage Ices (for providing refreshments) and Magor Amateur Dramatics. More pictures can be viewed here.

The Duck Race was the first event we have held on the Hub site and so will be properly reviewed as to what went well and what we could do better but, afterwards in the pub, there was a real feeling that it could be the first of many events on the site (before and after the Hub is built).  Ideas such as making the Duck Race an annual event, a Crafts and home-grown (and brewed maybe?) produce show in a marquee, a music festival and car boot sales.  If you have any ideas and/or would like to get involved with the MUCH group please contact us on magorandundyhub@gmail.com or via our Facebook page.
