The start of another year . . .

A couple of matters to update you on this month –

  • Following a helpful chat with Colin Phillips from MCC, who is supporting us within MCC community volunteer programme, and Jo Gillard from GAVO, we are now fine-tuning our business plan in readiness to support our application to the Big Lottery. We are looking to the Lottery to help fill the funding gap to start the Hub build. We expect the application process to begin within the next week.

  • Trustees of the MUCH group have been invited to take over the trusteeship and management of Undy Memorial Hall, as the existing, long-serving trustees of the Hall enter a well-deserved retirement. Since the 1950’s, when the Hall was built and set up as a registered charity, it has and continues to serve the community well.  It was intended as a ‘low cost’ place for all residents to meet and socialise but its use now is largely limited to dance and martial arts classes.

The communities of Undy, Magor and district have simply outgrown the Hall.  Nevertheless, it is still a lovely facility that, if operated in conjunction with the planned, new Hub it will continue to serve the community for many years.  The new trustees intend that eventually the Hub and the Memorial Hall will be operated together, so that both establishments can be used to their full potential. In the meantime, the trustees will ensure that the building is maintained, improved and cared for and that greater use is made of the free time slots (on weekends, mornings and some late evenings). MUCH will do its best to advertise the times when it is available and plan to run events there for all age-groups (see the Events Page for details).  Let us know what you think.
